Facebook has decided to end the “Places” check-in feature after just over a year after it was introduced. Facebook introduced “Places” after other location-based sharing services like Foursquare and Gowalla were gaining in popularity. According to a new survey of local business owners in the US, Facebook Places is receiving more attention and marketing dollars over smaller location-based services like Foursquare and Gowalla. The survey (completed by MerchantCircle) revealed that 32% of local businesses surveyed are promoting their business through Facebook Places and an additional 12% plan to use it in the coming months.
