Check-in on foursquare at billboard & feed your dog

How cool is this? GranataPet, one of Germany’s leading premium pet food brands, created a billboard that dispenses food for your dog when you check-in on foursquare. The billboard is strategically located in high traffic areas where people walk their dogs. The billboard provides instructions to check-in on foursquare. When someone checks-in at the billboard, a small amount of GrantaPet dog food is dispensed from the billboard for the dog to eat. Blog #75 of 365 of...

Foursquare to unveil version 3.0 at SXSW

Foursquare has announced their plans for SXSW on their website, including the release of foursquare version 3.0 for iPhone and Android. They’ve also posted their plans for parties, concerts, panels, and badges. There will be 18 new badges for SXSW 2011, but as of right now, they don’t indicate how to unlock. And of course, you’ll be able to play a game of foursquare and win some foursquare swag. Businesses focusing on Facebook Places

According to a new survey of local business owners in the US, Facebook Places is receiving more attention and marketing dollars over smaller location-based services like Foursquare and Gowalla. The survey (completed by MerchantCircle) revealed that 32% of local businesses surveyed are promoting their business through Facebook Places and an additional 12% plan to use it in the coming months. Foursquare’s usage has risen from 2% to 9% over the past year, but it’s not coming close to Facebook Places. Surprisingly, almost 30% of local businesses indicated they have never heard of...

Proper foursquare etiquette

Posted by on Feb 1, 2011 in Mobile | 3 comments

Howcast put together a great video of proper foursquare etiquette that reviews some of the most common issues people have with foursquare (e.g., over-sharing, cheating, etc.). My biggest pet-peeve with foursquare is the over-sharing. I do want to know when you’re checking-in at unique places, but I’m not that interested in seeing your checkins at the grocery store, gas station, or on the interstate. Do you have any other foursquare tips you would want to add? Blog #30 of...

Need an alibi? Check-in on Foursquare with My 4Square Alibi

Posted by on Jan 30, 2011 in Mobile | 0 comments

In another creative use of the Foursquare API, My 4Square Alibi will check you into any location making it appear that you’re actually there. For example, heading out to the golf course for a round of golf and you don’t want your wife to know? My 4Square Alibi will help you with an alibi by checking you in at a different location. The website is easy to use: simply input where you want people to think you’ve checked in and the website will do all the work. It’s an easy way to make people think you’re somewhere when you’re not. The website’s real “About...
