Back in September, I blogged about how Facebook Spam was becoming a big issue. The DIG team at Engauge manages several Facebook Pages and we’ve battled spam for months. Finally, it appears that Facebook is starting to provide admins with tools to combat spam on pages. Below is a notification that was located above Facebook pages for admins. Facebook surveying users on spam

Last week, I blogged about how Facebook spam was becoming a huge problem, particularly among popular fan pages. It appears that Facebook is aware as they have been running a poll on the homepage to try to measure the severity of the spam problem. The poll question asks users “How often do you see content you believe is spam in your News Feed on Facebook?” Personally, I would have to say “Often” as I have had to notify several of my friends that their profile is posting/sending out spam links. I guess spam is inevitable when you get 500 million users on one platform....

Facebook Spam has been a problem for some time now, but it appears to be getting worse. It’s even become more effective than email spam. According to a recent article in Information Week, the average conversion rate for a recent Facebook spam campaign was about 47%, meaning that nearly half of the people who saw the spam clicked on the link to read it. Several Facebook users have had their accounts compromised, allowing spam to spread on Facebook through status updates, chats and private messages.
